Opportunities to Serve

If you are interested in serving the Alpha ministry
in any of the following ways, please contact
Shirley Buchanan.

Hospitality Team

Provide practical services for all aspects of the Alpha course. Has the beginning gifts in the areas of helps and mercy; and has a servant's heart.
  • Help serve the meal and ensure guests have everything they need.
  • Prepare coffee, water for tea, and anything else needed for the coffee break.
  • Help staff Alpha Resource table as needed.
  • Help clean up tables, the serving area and kitchen after the weekly dinners and the Dinner Party.

Greeter

Alpha Greeters are very important because they are among the first people the guest will meet. Their key responsibility is to make people feel welcome and glad they have come to Alpha. Must be friendly (without being effusive), helpful, easygoing, good at remembering names and faces, reliable, and have a servant's heart. Greeters are needed for the weekly dinners and the dinner party.
  • Be familiar with each small group and that group's leaders, helpers and members.
  • Know the location of each small group.
  • Inform each person of his or her small group leader and location.
  • Assign guests who have not preregistered to the appropriate small group.
  • Introduce guests to a Runner who will take them to their small groups.

Runner

Since Runners are among the first people the Alpha guests meet, they are very important. Their main responsibility is to help people who are unfamiliar with the church and Alpha feel comfortable. Must be friendly (without being effusive), helpful, good at remembering names and faces, reliable, and have a servant's heart.
  • Be familiar with each small group and that group's leaders, helpers and members.
  • Display name tags for all team members and guests alphabetically and distribute them as people arrive.
  • Greet each guest as he or she is introduced by a Greeter and get that person to the correct small group.
  • Make name tags for guests who have not preregistered.
  • Return to the main door as quickly as possible after showing a guest to his or her group.
