With Jesus, Like Jesus, For Jesus
"Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely,
I am with you always, to the very end
of the age."
Matthew 28:19-20

Making Disciples

The mission of Westwood Presbyterian Church
is to simply make disciples who . . .
  • Walk with Jesus
  • Grow to become like Jesus
  • Live for Jesus by loving others

Making Disciples Q & A

What is a disciple and why is making disciples Westwood's mission? To learn more, check out the Making Disciples Q & A with Don Waite, Westwood's pastor.

Characteristics of a Disciple Making Church

  • Love is the foundation for all relationships. Our worship, giving, service, and participation are expressions of love. Disciples are motivated by love, not guilt or obligation.

  • Faith in Christ is taught, caught, nurtured and celebrated. Disciples expect great things from God.

  • Members are encouraged to step out of their comfort zones and depend completely upon God. They take risk for the sake of Christ. Disciples attempt to do things that would be impossible without God.

  • Focus on mission: Christ sends his disciples and gives them his authority, for serving others. Disciples focus on the work of the church, not church work.

  • Healthy relationships are more important than being right or than church programs. We need each other. Disciples intentionally invest time and effort in building healthy relationships within the church and beyond the church. However, when conflict arises, disciples deal with it in Christ-honoring ways.

  • Seek progress, not perfection. Living as disciples is a life-long process of growth and transformation.

  • Joy. Following Jesus brings both challenges and joy. As disciples, we take Jesus more seriously than we take ourselves and so discover joy on our journey.
